Foods that are bitter, sour, salty, very hot, pungent, dry and burning are favored by the rajasic person. They bring pain, grief and illness.
Explanation
Continuing his account of the three kinds of food, Krishna describes what appeals to those dominated by rajas (the guna of restless passion and craving). Such foods are extreme in taste and heat, and he says they lead to discomfort, distress and disease (āmaya). The contrast is with the sattvic foods of the previous verse, which support health and a calm mind.
