Those whose understanding has been carried off by one desire or another turn to other deities, following one rule or another, bound by their own nature.
Explanation
Krishna has just said that a wise person who sees the Divine in everything is rare. Here he describes the many people who instead pursue other deities, because their discernment (jñāna) is overtaken by various desires (kāma) and they act according to their own inborn disposition (prakṛti). Some commentators read "other deities" as lesser gods distinct from the Supreme, while others see them as forms of the one Divine approached with limited aims.
