यतेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिर्मुनिर्मोक्षपरायणः ।विगतेच्छाभयक्रोधो यः सदा मुक्त एव सः ॥
yatendriyamanobuddhirmunirmokṣaparāyaṇaḥ |vigatecchābhayakrodho yaḥ sadā mukta eva saḥ ||
The sage who has brought senses, mind and intellect under control, who is devoted to liberation, and who is free from desire, fear and anger, is truly liberated for good.
Explanation
Krishna is concluding his teaching to Arjuna on meditative renunciation, following the description of steady gaze and balanced breath. Here he describes the person who is truly free: a contemplative (muni) whose senses, mind and intellect are disciplined, whose aim is liberation (mokṣa), and who is beyond desire, fear and anger. Such a person is called liberated (mukta) already, not only after death.
