This gate to hell is threefold, and it destroys the self: desire, anger, and greed. Therefore one should give up these three.
Explanation
Krishna has just described people with demonic tendencies (asura) who keep falling into lower births. Here he names the three root causes of that fall: desire (kāma), anger (krodha) and greed (lobha). "Hell" (naraka) can be read as a place after death or as a state of suffering in this life, and "destroys the self" can likewise mean ruin of one's higher nature or of one's well-being; traditions differ on this.
