असत्यमप्रतिष्ठं ते जगदाहुरनीश्वरम् ।अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्यत्कामहैतुकम् ॥
asatyamapratiṣṭhaṃ te jagadāhuranīśvaram |aparasparasambhūtaṃ kimanyatkāmahaitukam ||
They say the world is without truth, without foundation and without a lord; that it arises only from the union of one being with another, with nothing but desire as its cause.
Explanation
Krishna is describing people with a demonic (āsura) outlook, who reject any moral order. They claim the world has no truth (satya), no foundation and no ruler (īśvara), and that it arises from nothing but desire (kāma). Commentators differ on aparaspara-sambhūtam: some take it as "born of mutual union", that is, of male and female, while others read it as "not arising from any ordered chain of causes", so that the world is mere chance.
