Little by little let him come to rest, with an intellect held steady by resolve. Having settled the mind in the Self, let him think of nothing at all.
Explanation
Krishna is describing the practice of meditation (dhyāna-yoga) to Arjuna. After giving up desires and reining in the senses, the practitioner quiets the mind gradually, using the intellect (buddhi) steadied by resolve (dhṛti). "Settled in the Self" (ātma-saṃstha) is read by many as resting in the inner Self (ātman), while some take it more simply as a mind collected within itself.
