For one who has conquered the self and is deeply at peace, the supreme Self stands steady and present—in cold and heat, in pleasure and pain, and likewise in honor and dishonor.
Explanation
Krishna continues describing how mastering the lower self makes it a friend. One who has self-mastery (jitātmā) and calm (praśānta) is steady in opposites like heat and cold, pleasure and pain, honor and insult. The word samāhita is read in two ways: the supreme Self is 'fully realized' in such a person, or the person is 'fully composed' in the supreme Self. Both readings point to the same inner steadiness.
