A yogi should practice yoga constantly, staying in a secluded place, alone, with mind and self restrained, free from craving and from possessions.
Explanation
Krishna now begins describing the practice of meditation to Arjuna, after speaking of the even-minded person. The yogi (one disciplined in yoga, the practice of union through meditation) is to practice regularly, in solitude, with a controlled mind and body (yatacittātmā), free from craving (āśīḥ) and from possessiveness (parigraha). Commentators differ on whether "alone" and "secluded" mean literal physical solitude or mainly inner detachment, and the verse can support both.
