यज्ञशिष्टाशिनः सन्तो मुच्यन्ते सर्वकिल्बिषैः ।भुञ्जते ते त्वघं पापा ये पचन्त्यात्मकारणात् ॥
yajñaśiṣṭāśinaḥ santo mucyante sarvakilbiṣaiḥ |bhuñjate te tvaghaṃ pāpā ye pacantyātmakāraṇāt ||
Good people who eat what remains after the sacrifice are freed from every kind of wrong. But the wicked who cook only for themselves eat sin.
Explanation
Krishna continues explaining to Arjuna the role of sacrifice (yajña) in life. Here he says that those who first offer, to the gods, to others and to the larger good, and only then eat what remains, are cleansed of their faults (kilbiṣa). Eating only for one's own sake is called sin (agha). Some readers take the sacrifice as literal Vedic ritual, others as any selfless, shared action.
