At the time of death, such a person, with a steady mind, filled with devotion and with the strength of yoga, fixes the life-breath properly between the eyebrows and reaches that supreme, divine Person.
Explanation
Krishna is answering Arjuna's question about how one can remember him at the moment of death. This verse completes the sentence begun in the previous verse, which describes meditating on the ancient, all-sustaining, sun-bright Lord. It says that devotion (bhakti) and the discipline of yoga, which here means steady meditative practice, let a person hold the breath and attention at the point between the brows and so reach the supreme Person (puruṣa). Some traditions take the practice quite literally as a breath-control technique, while others stress that the real means is steady devotion and remembrance.
