The king of Kashi, a supreme archer, and Shikhandi, a great chariot-warrior; Dhrishtadyumna and Virata, and Satyaki, the unconquered…
Explanation
Sanjaya is describing to the blind king Dhritarashtra how the Pandava side blew their conches to open the battle. This verse continues the list of warriors on that side: the king of Kashi, Shikhandi, Dhrishtadyumna, Virata and Satyaki. A mahāratha is a great chariot-warrior, a fighter able to take on many opponents at once. The sentence carries on into the next verse.
