Freedom from pride, freedom from hypocrisy, non-harming, patience, uprightness, service to the teacher, purity, steadiness, self-restraint…
Explanation
Having just described the "field" (kṣetra, the body and mind), Krishna begins a list of qualities he calls knowledge (jñāna). The list runs into the next verses. This first part covers humility, honesty, non-harming (ahiṃsā), patience, straightforwardness, devotion to a teacher, inner and outer cleanliness (śauca), steadiness and self-control. Traditions differ on whether these qualities are the knowledge itself or the groundwork that makes knowledge of the self possible.
