Desire, aversion, pleasure and pain, the body as an aggregate, consciousness, and resolve — this, briefly stated, is the field together with its transformations.
Explanation
Krishna is finishing his summary of the "field" (kṣetra), meaning the body and everything in experience that the knower observes. After the elements, senses and mind in the previous verse, he adds inner states: desire (icchā), aversion (dveṣa), pleasure, pain, the body as a composite (saṅghāta), awareness (cetanā) and steadiness or resolve (dhṛti). "Transformations" (vikāra) means that all of these change. Traditions differ on whether cetanā here is a mental function or the reflection of consciousness in the mind, but all agree it belongs to the field and not to the knower.
