Better than a sacrifice of material things, O scorcher of foes, is the sacrifice of knowledge. For all action without exception, O Partha, culminates in knowledge.
Explanation
Krishna has just listed many kinds of sacrifice (yajña), the ritual offerings and disciplines that make up a life of action (karma). Here he ranks the sacrifice of knowledge (jñāna-yajña) above sacrifices made with material offerings, because every action finds its fulfilment in knowledge. Traditions differ on what this knowledge is: some read it as realisation of the Self, others as understanding that makes action selfless and devoted.
