Though I am unborn, my self imperishable, and though I am the Lord of all beings, I take charge of my own nature and come into being through my own maya.
Explanation
Krishna has just told Arjuna that he remembers all his past births, and now explains how that is possible for one who is unborn and lord of all beings. He says he takes birth by governing his own nature (prakṛti) through his own power (māyā). Traditions differ on this: Advaita readers tend to see his embodiment as an apparent, illusion-like appearance, while devotional schools take it as his real, divine self-manifestation.
