अज्ञश्चाश्रद्दधानश्च संशयात्मा विनश्यति ।नायं लोकोऽस्ति न परो न सुखं संशयात्मनः ॥
ajñaścāśraddadhānaśca saṃśayātmā vinaśyati |nāyaṃ loko'sti na paro na sukhaṃ saṃśayātmanaḥ ||
The one who is ignorant, has no faith and is full of doubt is lost. For the doubter there is neither this world nor the next, nor any happiness.
Explanation
Krishna has just praised the faithful, self-controlled seeker who gains knowledge and peace. Here he warns of the opposite: someone who lacks understanding and trust, and whose mind is stuck in doubt (saṃśaya), loses out both in this life and after it, and finds no happiness. Many commentators read this as a warning against chronic, paralyzing doubt rather than honest questioning, though traditions differ on how much faith (śraddhā) it asks for.
