Of creations I am the beginning, the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Among branches of knowledge I am the knowledge of the Self, and among those who debate I am reasoned discussion (vada).
Explanation
Krishna continues listing his divine manifestations (vibhūti) for Arjuna, showing that he is the source, sustainer and end of all that is created. Here "knowledge of the Self" (adhyātma-vidyā) is the wisdom about the inner self and ultimate reality. "Vāda" is honest debate aimed at reaching the truth, as opposed to quarrelling merely to win; commentators differ somewhat on how they distinguish its types, but all see it as the best form of argument.
