Understanding, knowledge, freedom from confusion, patience, truth, self-restraint, inner calm, pleasure and pain, coming into being and passing away, fear and fearlessness too…
Explanation
Krishna is explaining that he is the source of all beings, and begins listing the many inner states and qualities that come from him. This verse names understanding (buddhi), knowledge (jñāna), patience (kṣamā), self-restraint (dama) and calm (śama), but also pleasure, pain, birth, death and fear. The list continues in the next verse, where he says all these states arise from him alone.
