तपाम्यहमहं वर्षं निगृह्णाम्युत्सृजामि च ।अमृतं चैव मृत्युश्च सदसच्चाहमर्जुन ॥
tapāmyahamahaṃ varṣaṃ nigṛhṇāmyutsṛjāmi ca |amṛtaṃ caiva mṛtyuśca sadasaccāhamarjuna ||
I give heat; I hold back the rain and I release it. I am immortality and also death, and I am both being and non-being, O Arjuna.
Explanation
Krishna continues describing how he is present in everything: the sun's heat, the withholding and sending of rain, life beyond death (amṛta) and death itself. Sat and asat mean 'being' and 'non-being', which can be read as what is manifest and unmanifest, or as the eternal and the perishable. Advaita readings stress that Krishna is the one reality behind both, while devotional traditions stress his lordship over all of them.
