O God, I see all the gods in your body, and likewise the many hosts of different kinds of beings; I see Brahma, the Lord, seated on the lotus seat, and all the sages and the divine serpents.
Explanation
Arjuna, having been given divine sight, begins to describe the universal form (viśvarūpa) he now sees. Within Krishna's body he sees the whole cosmos: the gods, hosts of beings of every kind, Brahma the creator on his lotus seat, the sages and the divine serpents. Commentators differ on "īśa" (lord): some take it as describing Brahma, while others read it as Shiva, so that Arjuna sees both Brahma and Shiva.
