त्वमादिदेवः पुरुषः पुराणस्त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम् ।वेत्तासि वेद्यं च परं च धामत्वया ततं विश्वमनन्तरूप ॥
tvamādidevaḥ puruṣaḥ purāṇastvamasya viśvasya paraṃ nidhānam |vettāsi vedyaṃ ca paraṃ ca dhāmatvayā tataṃ viśvamanantarūpa ||
You are the first god, the ancient Purusha. You are the supreme resting place of this whole universe. You are the knower and what is to be known, and the highest abode. By you, O one of endless form, the universe is pervaded.
Explanation
Arjuna, awed by Krishna's cosmic form, continues his hymn of praise. He calls Krishna the original divine being (Purusha, the person or cosmic spirit), the final support of everything, both the knower and the thing known, and the all-pervading reality. Traditions differ on whether this stresses a personal God who is the highest abode or an impersonal absolute, but all agree that it declares Krishna as supreme.
