नाहं वेदैर्न तपसा न दानेन न चेज्यया ।शक्य एवंविधो द्रष्टुं दृष्टवानसि मां यथा ॥
nāhaṃ vedairna tapasā na dānena na cejyayā |śakya evaṃvidho draṣṭuṃ dṛṣṭavānasi māṃ yathā ||
Neither by the Vedas, nor by austerity, nor by charity, nor by ritual offering can I be seen in this form, as you have just seen me.
Explanation
Krishna is speaking to Arjuna just after showing his cosmic universal form. He says that the usual religious means cannot by themselves bring this vision: study of the Vedas, austerity (tapas), giving (dāna) and ritual offering (ijyā). The next verse names what does: single-minded devotion (bhakti).
