कर्मजं बुद्धियुक्ता हि फलं त्यक्त्वा मनीषिणः ।जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः पदं गच्छन्त्यनामयम् ॥
karmajaṃ buddhiyuktā hi phalaṃ tyaktvā manīṣiṇaḥ |janmabandhavinirmuktāḥ padaṃ gacchantyanāmayam ||
Wise people whose understanding is steady give up the fruit born of action. Freed from the bondage of rebirth, they reach the state beyond all suffering.
Explanation
Krishna continues teaching Arjuna about acting with a steady, balanced mind (buddhi-yoga). Wise people act but let go of attachment to the results (phala), and so they are released from the bondage of birth (janma-bandha), the cycle of birth and rebirth. They reach a state free of suffering or affliction (anāmaya), which traditions commonly understand as liberation (mokṣa).
