vihāya kāmānyaḥ sarvānpumāṃścarati niḥspṛhaḥ |nirmamo nirahaṃkāraḥ sa śāṃtimadhigacchati ||
A person who gives up all desires and moves through the world free of longing, without a sense of "mine" and without ego, attains peace.
Explanation
Krishna is concluding his description of the steady-minded person (sthitaprajña) for Arjuna. Having just said that one who chases desires finds no peace, he now gives the opposite: peace comes from letting go of craving (spṛhā), possessiveness (mamatā) and ego (ahaṅkāra). Traditions differ on whether this means outward renunciation or inner freedom while still acting, but all agree the heart of it is inner release.
