yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṃ tyaktvā dhanañjaya |siddhyasiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṃ yoga ucyate ||
Established in yoga, perform your actions, O Dhananjaya, giving up attachment and staying even-minded in success and failure. Evenness of mind is what is called yoga.
Explanation
Krishna continues his advice to Arjuna, who is hesitating to fight. He says to act while rooted in yoga (here, steady union with the Self or the Divine), letting go of attachment (saṅga) to results. He defines yoga in this context as equanimity (samatva), staying balanced whether an action succeeds or fails. Commentators differ on emphasis: some read this yoga mainly as disciplined action offered to God, others as the steadiness of wisdom (buddhi).
