From anger comes bewilderment; from bewilderment, confusion of memory; from confusion of memory, the loss of discernment; and from the loss of discernment, a person is destroyed.
Explanation
Krishna is continuing his account to Arjuna of how a mind that dwells on sense objects slides downward: desire leads to anger, and anger leads on from there. Anger brings delusion (saṃmoha), which disturbs memory (smṛti), so a person forgets what they know and value, and then loses discernment (buddhi), the power to tell right from wrong. The final word, praṇaśyati, is usually read as complete ruin; commentators differ on whether this means spiritual downfall or loss of one's true purpose in life.
