न द्वेष्ट्यकुशलं कर्म कुशले नानुषज्जते ।त्यागी सत्त्वसमाविष्टो मेधावी छिन्नसंशयः ॥
na dveṣṭyakuśalaṃ karma kuśale nānuṣajjate |tyāgī sattvasamāviṣṭo medhāvī chinnasaṃśayaḥ ||
The one who renounces, filled with clarity (sattva), wise and free of doubt, neither hates an unpleasant action nor clings to a pleasant one.
Explanation
Krishna continues describing the person whose renunciation is sattvic, meaning marked by clarity and balance (sattva, one of the three gunas, the qualities of nature). Such a person feels no aversion (dveṣa) toward disagreeable duties and no attachment (saṅga) to agreeable ones. The words rendered here as unpleasant and pleasant (akuśala, kuśala) are taken by some commentators as inauspicious and auspicious, or as action that binds and action that leads to liberation.
