O mighty-armed one, learn from me these five causes for the accomplishment of all actions, as they are declared in the Sankhya, the teaching where action reaches its end.
Explanation
Krishna has just said that renouncing the fruits of action frees one from its results. Now he begins to explain why, by naming five factors behind any action; they are listed in the next verse. He says these appear in the Sankhya system, here called the 'end of what is done' (kṛtānta). Some traditions take kṛtānta as the final conclusion of the Vedanta, others as the Sankhya school's own analysis of action.
