निश्चयं श्रृणु मे तत्र त्यागे भरतसत्तम ।त्यागो हि पुरुषव्याघ्र त्रिविधः संप्रकीर्तितः ॥
niścayaṃ śrṛṇu me tatra tyāge bharatasattama |tyāgo hi puruṣavyāghra trividhaḥ saṃprakīrtitaḥ ||

Explanation
Arjuna has asked about renunciation (tyāga), and Krishna has just noted that thinkers disagree: some say all action should be given up as flawed, others say sacrifice, giving and austerity should not be. Here he sets out to give his own settled view (niścaya). He begins by saying that renunciation comes in three kinds, which the following verses explain through the three guṇas (qualities of nature).
