If, clinging to ego, you think, "I will not fight," this resolve of yours is false. Your own nature will drive you to it.
Explanation
Krishna is warning Arjuna, who has doubted whether to fight. He says that a refusal grounded in ego (ahaṅkāra, the sense of "I am the doer") is not a real decision, because Arjuna's own nature (prakṛti) will pull him into action anyway. Commentators differ on prakṛti here: some take it as his inborn warrior temperament, others as the gunas of material nature that drive all action.
