अनुबन्धं क्षयं हिंसामनपेक्ष्य च पौरुषम् ।मोहादारभ्यते कर्म यत्तत्तामसमुच्यते ॥
anubandhaṃ kṣayaṃ hiṃsāmanapekṣya ca pauruṣam |mohādārabhyate karma yattattāmasamucyate ||
An action begun out of delusion, with no regard for the consequences, the loss it causes, the harm to others, or one's own capacity, is called tamasic.
Explanation
Krishna is describing three kinds of action according to the three qualities (guṇa) of nature. This verse covers the tamasic kind, which comes from delusion (moha) and ignores consequences (anubandha), loss (kṣaya), harm (hiṁsā) and one's own ability (pauruṣa). Pauruṣa is often read as one's own capacity, but some commentators take it as human effort or ability in general.
